Project: Climate obstruction in Meta Ads: A closer look at Mexico’s regional climate communication

Abstract: The use of climate obstruction strategies has been studied primarily in Europe and the United States. In this project the focus is moved to Mexico, where climate discourse has been analyzed to reveal the regional differences between Quintana Roo, a tourism-dependent state, and Oaxaca, a region with strong community-based conservation traditions. The analysis was conducted on Meta-ads published in Mexico during 2025.

The project aims to show how climate discourse can be strongly influenced by local power structures and dependencies.
